Are the problems with your car windows causing you constant stress? Do you wish that you could find a solution so you could finally stop thinking about it?

Luckily for you, such a solution exists. That magical solution is a little thing called auto glass.

But just what is auto glass replacement and how will help you with your car window problems? Well if there is one thing we know all about its auto glass and how to install it.

Below you will find everything you will ever need to know about auto glass and the process of replacing and repairing it.

Types of Auto Glass

When considering auto glass window replacement for your car, it's important to know the two types of auto glass. These types are tempered and safety glass.

Tempered glass is used for the rear windows of a car. Safety glass on the other hand is used for the windshield of the car. Tempered glass is created by being heated and then quickly cooled.

Tempered glass is designed in a way that if it shatters it will simply fall to the ground instead of falling onto passengers. Tempered glass also does not break into sharp pieces either.

Safety glass is created by taking two sheets of glass and attaching them to a thin layer of vinyl. Similarly, safety glass should not fall onto the ground if it is shattered. Instead, the pieces of the shattered safety glass should stick to the vinyl that it is attached to.

Auto Glass Replacement Process

Auto glass replacement is not only needed in the case of a car accident. Any number of stresses to the glass of your vehicle could cause damage to it. Simple debris from the road flying up into your windshield and even the vibration of your vehicle could eventually cause a crack to form.

Glass replacement on your vehicle is a simple and easy process. For the windshield to be removed the wipers must be removed.

After this, the mold and cowl that hold the windshield are removed. This allows the windshield to then be removed out of place. The adhesive that held the old windshield is removed for the new one to be put in.

Once a new windshield is installed the process is then reversed. Cowl and mold are replaced followed by the installation of the wipers.

The entire process of the glass replacement should take no more than an hour. However, it is often wise to wait an additional hour for the new adhesive holding the windshield to dry.

Assessing the Damage of Auto Glass

Just because the auto glass of your car is damaged does not mean that all of the glass has to be replaced. All that might be needed is a simple glass repair rather than replacement.

It is wise to always pay close attention to the glass on your car. Taking note of any damages however small can prevent you from having to get a full-on auto glass replacement. Not to mention a severely damaged windshield can be a safety hazard to you.

If you find that the glass of your vehicle has a knick or what appears to only be a vein, then a replacement will not be necessary.

Not only will repairing the glass cost less, but it will also take less time to complete. The process of glass repair in the case of minor damage like a knick or vein is simple.

The damaged spot on the glass is first dried and afterward, a resin is shot into it. This resin has to be shot into the damaged area at an extremely high amount of pressure while also being held in place by a strong material. Often this material is mylar.

Once finished, ultraviolet light shines onto the resin to cure it. After the resin is cured the mylar and excess resin have to be removed.

Lastly, the formerly damaged area is then polished down. Repairing small damage to the glass of your vehicle is important because it can prevent it from getting worse and requiring auto glass replacement.

Financial Considerations

It is always a good idea to first consult your auto insurance provider to find out what they cover. Most auto insurance providers will be able to pay for any repairs or replacements.

If your auto insurance does not completely pay for this then they will likely cover a portion of the expenses. Knowing what your insurance will cover is beneficial because you will know what your out pocket expenses will be.

Most importantly, always ask questions! You are the customer and you are entitled to know all the details of your glass repair or replacement. This includes knowing anything from what type of safety glass is being used to what adhesive will be used to hold your new windshield in place.
